Largest and Creepy Insects in the World

Insects are found in different parts of the world. There are hundreds of species of insects that vary from each other in different aspects including the living style, feeding methods, reproduction cycle and nature. We have selected this article in order to discuss some largest and creepy insects that are found in different parts of the world.

Forficula auricularia, the common earwig or European earwig, is an omnivorous insect in the family Forficulidae. The European earwig survives in a variety of environments and is a common household insect in North America. . This is considered as one of the largest and creepy insects in the world. This is also considered a common household insect in different parts of the world. It can survive in different types of environments.

The elephant beetle (Megasoma elephas) is a member of the family Scarabaeidae and the subfamily Dynastinae. They are Neotropical rhinoceros beetles. This is also considered as one of the largest insects in the world. They have coating of fine hair which are very small in size and that can be seen by microscope only. As far as the size of elephant beetle is concerned, they vary from 7 to 12 cm.

The wheel bug (Arilus cristatus) is in the family Reduviidae. The species is one of the largest terrestrial true bugs in North America, reaching up to 1.5 inches (38 mm) in length in their adult stage. This is also considered as creepy insects in the world and is normally found in different parts of North America. They normally feed on small insects which they can target easily.

Tsetse flies include all the species in the genus Glossina, which are placed in their own family, Glossinidae. The tsetse is obligate parasites that live by feeding on the blood of vertebrate animals. They are economically important in sub-Saharan Africa as the biological vectors of trypanosomes, which cause human sleeping sickness and animal trypanosomiasis. They are also included in the list of largest and creepy insects in the world. They are also known as biting flies and they mostly feed on the blood of different other animals. They are found most frequently in Africa and another famous name of tsetse fly is tik-tik flies.

Brahmaea wallichii also known as the owl moth is a moth from the family Brahmaeidae, the Brahmin moths are one of the largest species. It is found in the north of India, Bhutan, Myanmar, China, Taiwan and Japan. The wingspan is about 90–160 millimeters. This is also considered as one of the largest and creepy insects in the world. They belong to the family which is known Lepidoptera. Different types of research studies have found that there are around 40 species of this family.

Spilosoma lubricipeda, the white ermine, is a moth of the family Erebidae. It is found throughout the temperate belt of Eurasia from Europe through Kazakhstan and southern Siberiato Amur Region, China, Korea and Japan. In China several sibling species occur. It is normally found in regions or areas which have temperate weather conditions and belong to the family known as Arctiidae. They are considered very dangerous in nature.

There are different types of research studies that issued a fact claiming that majority share of world’s silk production is produced in China and this insect helps a lot in making the silk. They normally feed on different leaves.

Idolomantis diabolica, commonly known as the devil’s flower mantis or giant devil’s flower mantis, is one of the largest species of praying mantis, possibly the largest that mimics flowers. It is the only species classified under the genus Idolomantis. The devil’s flower mantis also known as giant devil’s flower mantis. Devil’s flower mantis is considered as one of the largest species that do follow target on most frequent basis. The females of this family grow ranging 11 to 13 cm in length.

Treehoppers are members of the family Membracidae, a group of insects related to the cicadas and the leafhoppers. About 3,200 species of treehoppers in over 400 genera are known. They are found on all continents except Antarctica; only three species are known from Europe. Individual treehoppers usually live for only a few months. The Brazilian treehopper is also considered as one of the largest and creepy insects in the world. This has round antenna like things on its head which make its appearance something horrible. This is considered a normal bug. This Brazilian Treehopper feeds on leaves of tress.
