Introduction To Blood Bank
The term “blood bank” typically refers to a division of a hospital where the storage of blood product occurs and where proper testing is performed (to reduce the risk of transfusion related adverse events),
Blood banking process takes place in the lab. to make sure that donated blood, or blood products, are safe before they are used in blood transfusions and other medical procedures. Blood banking includes typing the blood for transfusion and testing for infectious diseases.
Today, blood banks collect blood and separate it into its various components so they can be used most effectively according to the needs of the patient. Red blood cells carry oxygen, platelets help the blood clot, and plasma has specific proteins that allow proper regulation of coagulation and healing.
IMA Blood Bank visit
An educational visit to IMA blood bank was organized on 14th & 16th Oct 2017 for paramedical students of UCBMSH Dehradun. Objective of the visit was to create awareness for Blood Banking procedures.
During their visit they were informed about the Donor selection criteria, donor screening procedure, phlebotomy technique, aphaeresis procedure, transfusion, transmissible infectious diseases testing techniques, Blood grouping techniques, Component separation techniques and the cross matching techniques. Lot of information regarding Different types of Laboratories was provided.
They learn how a single unit of whole blood can be separated in 3 different components such as PLASMA, PLATLET, and conc. RBC and can save 3 lives.
CONCLUSION
The authorities at “IMA Blood bank” had provided a great support in guiding students about importance of blood donation and the blood banking techniques.
The students asked questions/queries to the guides and they answered all of them. The students were very happy after this visit and they got ample knowledge about Blood banking and the guidelines given by them are really very important for their future aspects.
We extended our heartiest thanks to the “IMA Blood Bank” for the beneficiary knowledge they provided
