REPORT OFWORKSHOP
ON
WATER,AIR AND NOISE MONITORING
Date-16.04.2018 to 19.04.2018

Report Submitted By – DEPARTMENT OF EVS

Introduction-
The workshop was conducted by the Department of Environmental Sciences in Uttaranchal (PG) College of Biomedical Sciences & Hospital. In the workshop students of different departments participated such as Environmental Sciences, Chemistry and Zoology.

Aim:
The main aim of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge about water, air and noise qualitative and quantitative parameters. Demonstration and handling of instruments to increase practical knowledge of students.Monitoring of air, water and noise pollution on and outside the polluted sites.

MODULE-1 LECTURES
DAY 1 (16 April 2018)
The First day lecture was delivered by Dr.Pallavi Chauhan (Head of dept.) on the topic Water Pollution (causes and impacts)

  1.  Specification for drinking water
  2.  Water Quality Index
  3.  Characteristics of waste water and standards
  4.  Theory of sampling and analysis of physio chemical parameter of water

DAY 2 (17 April 2018)
Second day lecture was delivered by Dr. Nidhi Rawat (Assistant Professor) on the topic Air pollution.

  1.  Air sampling and analysis
  2.  Air quality parameters

Third Lecture was delivered Ms Jyoti Joshi (Assistant Professor) on the topic Noise Pollution & its Monitoring

  1.  Noise qualitative parameters
  2.  Noise monitoring at selected industrial, residential and silence zone, presenting data in comparison with standards.

MODULE-2 HANDS-ON TRAINING
DAY 3 (18 April 2018)

Third day the students visited to the Uttarakhand Environment protection & pollution control Board. Where Mr. S.P. Singh, coordinator of UEPPCB, Mrs Niharika Dimri coordinator of ENVIS HUB and their team members demonstrated the working and handling of the instruments of spectrometer, AAS, PH meter, noise meter, air sampler. They also visited the sampling site which was near clock tower where they demonstrated the working of air sampler.

DAY 4 (19 April 2018)
Fourth day, the students visited to Sewage treatment Plant, Mothrowala, Dehradun where the students learn about the different step of treatments of the sewage. Where the coordinator and other team member explain importance of the water treatment plant he provides basic information about screening process of waste water treatment plant. The students saw how the waste sludge are collected, processed and disposed through the visit, students got an in depth knowledge of the various components of the treatment plant based on Activated Sludge Process. They also become familiar with the working principle and functions of various units of treatment plant such as screens, grit chamber, primary clarifier, aeration tank, secondary clarifier, sludge digester, etc. The visit was quite helpful for the students to get the practical knowledge regarding the functioning and process of municipal waste water treatment plant

CERTIFICATION
The members and coordinator of UCPPCB visited the college and give certificate to the students in presence of Principal Dr. Rashmi Dhigra, Dean of life science Dr. Pallavi Chauhan. They also encourage and appreciate the students for participating in the workshop. The students also shared their workshop experience with them.

CONCLUSION.
The workshop was helpfull for the students to get knowledge about the air, water and pollution. Visits provides practical knowledge about physico-chemical treatment of waste water and component used in treatment plant, Noise sampler.
