Visit to ENERGY PARK (UREDA) – Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency
March 7, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC+0
Aim and Objective: Renewable energy collected from the renewable and natural resources such as sun, water, rain, tides has been beneficial for human beings in many ways. To know how the renewable energy is practically beneficial to people in their daily life, an educational visit to UREDA Energy Park was organized by Department Botany. Students from both the semester along with the faculty members visited the energy park. In Uttarakhand, operation and execution of various schemes based on non – conventional energy resources is handled by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) through local Panchayat, volunteer organizations and district administration.
Main Highlights of the Energy Park:During the visit Mr. Rajendra who is a technician in Energy Park gave the demonstrated about the park.
Solar Energy Power Plant: It is a good alternative for generating light in the rural area. Through this plant street light could be glow for 5-6 hours. There are two solar plant in the park viz. 50KW and 10KW.
Solar Cabinet Drier: It can be used for drying of vegetables, fruits, spices, chemicals etc. the system is capable of drying upto 15 to 50 kg of material at a time.

Solar Still: Solar distillation is the simplest method of purification of water. When the sun rays pass through the glass, the heat is absorbed by the black coated absorber area and evaporation of water takes place. The vapours get condensed at the inner face of the glass in the form of water droplets and slide down in the channel of the system. The system is capable of producing 2-3liters of water per day.
Solar Cottage: The building has been specially built on solar passive architecture concept to keep optimum utilization of solar energy by keeping its orientation south.
Energy Drum: the energy drum is a cylindrical drum made of mild steel and rest on metallic wheels aligned with the circular rails is such a way that the drum can rotate freely on its axis when the rider tries to walk or joy along the inside periphery of the drum, it rotates and generates electricity through a D.C. dynamo fitted with the wheels.
Solar Water Heater: Solar water heating system is used for heating of water for domestic, commercial and industrial use. The radiation from sun is collected through solar collectors, which convert the radiation into heat energy. The solar water heating system can be used for heating water upto 800C. The minimum capacity of this system is 100 ltrs. per day.
Solar Cooker Box Type: The body of this type cooker is made of fiber. In this cooker sun rays are reflected through an adjustable mirror cover. Being a healthier to cook for 4-5 persons, solar cooker are a blessings for environment as they did not emit smoke, use depleting fuel or add any environmental pollution.

Improved WaterMill: This machine is used to grind grains by producing energy from hydropower. The generation of power depends on the discharge and head of the water resources. This machine can work on minimum water discharge of 100ltrs.
Human Waste Based Biogas Plant: This biogas plant operates with human waste collected from community toilets to produce 08cubic meter biogas per day. This gas is used for lightening the lamp and for cooking.
Biodiesel Plant: Specially designed to extract biodiesel from Jatropha curcas. Combining 30% crude diesel with 70% bio-diesel can make 100% diesel suitable for various purposes.
Conclusion: The visit was beneficial in motivating the students regarding the benefits and use of renewable energy in our daily life. It also shows that the use of renewable energy lessen the pressure of non-renewable sources of energy and also that they are environment friendly.
