The college of Forestry that came into existence since establishment of college and started imparting education leading to B.Sc. (Forestry) degree under the umbrella of UCBMSH Affiliated to H.N.B. Garhwal (Central) University. Forestry has earned a unique distinction not only in the country but also in whole Asia to impart teaching, research and extension education in forestry. Its milestones in teaching, research and extension education have strengthened the path of sustainable development of the forestry in country.

The Government of India has agreed to give weightage to Forestry graduates in selection of Assistant Conservator of Forest and Range Forest Officer. However, most of the graduating students have opted for higher education from the institutes of national repute and joined academics. Many of the students have got employment in multinational companies, banking sector and other government and non government organizations. 

WHAT IS FORESTRY?

The national forest policy recommended that 33% of the total geographical area of the country be brought under forests whereas only 23.6% of the area is under forest as per SER 2009.

The ever rising demand of the society for the tangible and intangible products of the forest, importance for the forest management opens up a large vista of employment to the government bodies, NGO’s, Research institutions, wood based industries and the multidisciplinary self employment opportunities as an entrepreneur or consultant.

The course not only enlightens the student about the forestry species, but the methodologies and procedures learnt for nursery plantations and hydrology help them in developing and maintaining plantations for tea, coffee, rubber, bamboo and clonal industrial species.

LABORATORIES: The department has well equipped laboratories for studying U.G. practical works and to conduct research trials for P.G. courses.

NURSERY: A nursery has been established in college for practical work exposure to students. The practicals actually increases the understanding methodology which helps the student to learn easily. 

GUEST LECTURES: The department has organized guest lectures time to time according to the syllabus. The great experts are invited from renowned institutions such as FRI Dehradun, Ranichauri, GBPUAT Pantnagar, HNB Garhwal University.

EDUCATIONAL TOURS/VISITS:  The college of forestry conducts educational tours and visits to various research centres like Jim Corbett National Park Nainital, Deodar Forest – Chakrata Forest Division, Eco-tourism park Mussoorie, GBPUAT Pantnagar.
